An inter-professional therapeutic program, based on play, for groups of children with developmental disabilities.

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to describe the background, rationale, and intervention principles of an early intervention program and its development and outreach. The play-based, inter-professional, therapeutic group program (PBIT) is for children between two to four years of age with developmental disabilities and includes a learning specialist, Speech-Language (SL) and Occupational Therapies (OT) and use The PLAY Project (PLAY) and Sensory Integration (SI) as the theoretical models for its conceptualization and development. The PBI uses play-based methods and sensory motor interventions with a small adult to child ratio to prepare children for preschool as well as provides parent/caregiver training for a family centered approach.
